Do I need a server, or a VPN?
Neither. The computer at home registers with our meeting point over HTTPS and waits there, and you type its 9-digit ID on the other machine. No VPS to rent, no networking software to install, no ports to forward. If you already run your own VPN it keeps working, and the app never needs to know about it.
Does my data pass through your servers?
Only when the two machines cannot see each other directly. On the same network the app connects straight across and not a byte leaves your building. Over distance the packets do go through the meeting point, which cannot read them. Session keys come from the 6-digit code plus an ECDH secret the server holds no part of, so to it everything is random bytes.
What does it cost?
MXa is commercial software and needs a licence. It isn't on sale yet, and pricing will be published with the release. Write to us if you'd like to hear when that happens.
How is this different from macOS Screen Sharing?
Screen Sharing speaks VNC. It sends rectangles and waits a full network round trip per frame, which you feel immediately over distance. MXa compresses H.264 on the chip and streams continuously, so the same link carries a far steadier picture. Screen Sharing also won't get you through the router at home, and MXa handles that part too.
My office network blocks everything. Will it work?
Yes. Sessions travel over port 443 and look like an ordinary HTTPS connection to any firewall, so there is nothing to request from IT and no VPN to stand up. Hotel Wi-Fi and mobile data behave the same way.
Do I need my computer account password?
No. The computer at home generates its own 6-digit code for remote control, completely separate from your macOS login password. You can rotate it at any time.
How much bandwidth does it need?
Around 8 Mbps for a sharp 1920-pixel-wide picture. The app lowers the bit rate as the link degrades. For something lighter, stream a single app window instead of the whole desktop; plenty of work only needs that.
Where do I get the iPhone and iPad app?
It has been submitted to the App Store and is waiting on Apple's review. Once it clears, you install it from the App Store like anything else. Until then, anyone comfortable with Xcode can build it from source, and the Guide walks through it step by step.
What if I buy it and it doesn't suit me?
Take your money back within 30 days, no reason needed. One line to info@macxa.app with your order number is enough. Where the law grants a 14-day right to cancel digital goods, that right stands untouched. Our 30-day promise sits on top of it.
Can several people connect to one computer at once?
No. The computer at home serves exactly one visitor at a time, and the limit is deliberate. You always know who your screen is open to.
