How to control your computer remotely

Download the DMG, open it, drag MXa into your Applications folder. That is the whole install. There is no VPN or extra software to add.

The first time you open it, macOS blocks it. Go to System Settings → Privacy & Security, scroll near the bottom, find the line about MXa and click Open Anyway. You only do this once.

Open the app and say yes when macOS asks for Screen Recording and Accessibility. Without the first, the other machine sees no picture. Without the second, your mouse and keyboard do nothing.

Pick what this machine is for: being controlled, or controlling another one. The app shows its own 9-digit ID straight away. There is nothing else to set up.
The app is signed by its developer but hasn't been through Apple's notarisation yet. That is why your computer asks once on first launch, and step 2 above is how you answer. After that it opens like any other app.
What you need
- A computer at home that stays powered on and logged in.
- A computer, iPhone or iPad to reach it from.
- Any connection, Wi-Fi or cellular. No static IP, no port forwarding on the router.
